Hy-Vee is expanding its Scan & Go contactless checkout program, which debuted last year, to more of its stores, the grocery chain announced this week. The self-scanning service, which runs on FutureProof Retail (FPR)'s Mobile Checkout Platform, launched at select Des Moines, Iowa, locations in 2021. The new QuikTrip store, located in Tulsa, is the retailer’s first to run on checkout-free technology. Customers at the non-gasoline location will be able to insert their credit card at the store’s entry gate, shop like normal, and then leave the store. The licensed Amazon “Just Walk Out” solution uses a combination of computer vision, sensor fusion, and machine-learning algorithms to determine what items shoppers take from or return to the shelves, and when they leave, the credit card they inserted will be charged for the items they took.

Telexistence and FamilyMart are rolling out a fleet of artificial intelligence-driven robots to restock shelves in 300 convenience stores across Japan.
